On Set

What the Wall Does in Your Shot

An LED wall does more than show a picture. It's part of the set and it lights the scene.

Performance backdrop

The artist performs in front of the wall with your visuals, lyric graphics or a live camera feed behind them.

A light source for the scene

The wall throws colored light onto talent and set, and it changes with the content. Built for club, stage and night looks.

A screen inside the story

A concert, club, broadcast or showroom set where the screen itself is part of the scene.

Commercial & branded content

Product loops, logo reveals and campaign graphics on a seamless wall, for spots, social cuts and launch films.

A Straight Answer

Will a 3.9mm Wall Work on Camera?

Usually, yes, when it's framed and lit as a set piece. 3.9mm is a live-event pixel pitch, so it has limits on camera. We plan around them before the shoot, not on the day.

  • DistanceGive the wall room behind your talent. The farther the lens is from the wall, the cleaner it reads.
  • FocusA wall slightly out of focus looks seamless. Tight shots with the wall sharp in frame can show moiré (wavy lines); a change of focus, angle or distance clears it.
  • BrightnessCamera needs far less output than a live show. Our technician sets the wall to your exposure and color temperature at the processor.
  • Frame rate & shutterTest your settings against the wall at a prelight or camera test. We set up the processor with your camera team.
  • Virtual productionThis is not a VP volume. If the shot needs in-camera VFX with camera tracking, you need a finer-pitch stage, and we'll tell you so when you send the brief.

Built Around a Shoot Day

Ready Before Call Time

You're paying for the stage by the hour. The wall should be the last thing you think about on the day.

  • Built before callLoad-in timed to your stage or location access, so the wall is up, mapped and tested before camera arrives.
  • Prelight and camera test daysAdd a prelight day to test the wall with your camera, content and lighting before the shoot. Quoted on request.
  • A technician at the processorBrightness, color, playback and source switching handled on set, so your crew isn't troubleshooting the wall between takes.
  • Content that fits the first timeWe send the exact pixel dimensions ahead of the shoot so your designer or editor builds content that fills the wall.
  • HDMI and SDI inputsFeed the wall from a laptop, playback system, switcher or live camera.
  • Ground-stacked or flownStanding on its own support or hung from truss, depending on the stage, the shot and the ceiling height.
  • Multi-day shootsTwo-day holds are billed at 1.5x the gear day rate, not double. Labor is billed per shift for each day the crew is on set.
  • Dry hire for experienced crewsTiles, processing, ground-stack hardware and cabling, cased and ready to load. Your crew builds and operates.

How Booking Works

From Brief to Wrap

Most quotes go out within one business day of a complete request.

  1. Send the brief

Shoot date, location, the look you're after and the shots the wall has to hold up in. A treatment or reference frames help.

  2. Get a quote and a wall plan

Wall size, rigging, power and load-in, with gear and crew priced separately so you can see where the money goes.

  3. Lock it and prep

A 50% deposit holds the tiles and crew. We send pixel dimensions for content, and test with your camera if you book a prelight.

  4. Shoot and wrap

We build before call, run the wall through the day and strike on your wrap schedule.

Questions Before You Book

Music Video & Commercial FAQ

Will we see moiré or flicker on camera?

Moiré shows up when the wall is sharp in frame and close to the lens. More distance, softer focus on the wall or a small change of angle usually clears it. Test your frame rate and shutter against the wall at a prelight or camera test; our technician sets up the processor with your camera team.

Is this a virtual production volume?

No. Our 3.9mm wall is a set piece, a performance backdrop and a light source. If your shot needs in-camera VFX with camera tracking, you need a finer-pitch virtual production stage, and we'll tell you that when you send the brief.

What content format does the wall need?

Standard video files (MP4 is ideal) or a live output from a laptop, playback system or camera. Once the wall size is confirmed we send the exact pixel dimensions so your designer or editor can build content that fills the wall without stretching or cropping.

Can we feed the wall from a camera or playback system?

Yes. The NovaStar processor accepts HDMI and SDI, so laptops, playback systems, switchers and cameras can all feed the wall. On operated rentals our technician manages the sources and switches between them on set.

Do you work on location, or only on stages?

Both: stages, warehouses, houses, rooftops and outdoor sets across Southern California. We specify the power in the quote. Smaller walls typically run from dedicated circuits; larger walls may need a power distro or a generator.

How far ahead should we book?

As soon as you have a date. Tiles and crew are held only on deposit, so a short-notice shoot depends on what is already booked. Send the date and we'll tell you straight away whether it's open.

Do you offer dry hire for crews who run their own wall?

Yes. Dry hire includes the tiles, ground-stack hardware, NovaStar processing and signal cabling, cased and ready to load. Your crew builds and operates, with delivery or pickup.
