Weddings in Malibu

Beautiful sites with strict rules, handled quietly

Malibu weddings happen at some of the most photographed sites in Southern California and under some of the strictest conditions. Private estates and ranches carry their own sound limits and curfews, often written into the rental agreement and enforced by neighbors. Bluff-top ceremonies face onshore wind that will defeat a small speaker. Canyon venues sit at the end of narrow roads with limited turnaround for a truck. And many sites run on generator power, which has to be quiet and sized for the wall, the PA, the lighting and the effects.

We treat a Malibu wedding like a production. Before the day, we send your venue or estate manager a power and load-in list, confirm the sound limit and the curfew, plan where the truck parks and how the gear reaches the site, and set the reception audio to the limit so the party is never shut down early. The lighting and the LED wall are timed for sunset and the marine layer, and the fog and sparks go where the site allows.

Malibu is inside our LA-area delivery, so there is no distance line. Canyon access or a long carry is planned and quoted up front if it applies.

What Malibu wedding venues mean for the night

The notes below are the planning we do for every venue type. Tell us yours and the quote reflects it.

  • Private estates above PCHRental estates with ocean views, sound limits and curfews in the contract. We set the PA to the limit, plan a quiet generator where needed, and build the timeline to the curfew.
  • Ranches & canyon venuesCalamigos Ranch, Saddlerock Ranch, Malibu Rocky Oaks and the estates up Kanan, Latigo and Mulholland: narrow access, generator power and dust, with the wall and lighting protected and timed to sunset.
  • Bluff & beach ceremoniesPoint Dume, El Matador and the bluff-top lawns: wireless lapel mic on the officiant, handheld mics for vows, and speakers placed and powered to carry over the wind and the surf.
  • Hotels & restaurantsThe Malibu Beach Inn, the pier restaurants and the Pacific Palisades hotels: indoor receptions with effects policies we confirm in writing, and uplighting that does the transforming in a neutral room.
  • Tented receptionsTents on estate lawns with power planned from the house panel or a generator, uplights on the walls and poles, fog kept low under the canopy and sparks placed where the tent allows.

How the Night Runs

A Malibu wedding, start to finish

Here is how a typical estate wedding with us unfolds. Your timeline is built with you and your planner in advance.

Ceremony over the Pacific

Officiant on a wireless lapel mic, handheld mics for vows and readings, processional and recessional cued to the second, with audio built to beat the onshore wind.

Cocktail Hour at Golden Hour

A separate speaker setup with a curated playlist on the terrace, so the reception is being finished while guests watch the sun go down.

Grand Entrance

Uplights come up as the light goes, moving heads sweep the tent or the room, your names appear on the LED wall and the DJ brings you in.

First Dance

Fog spreads across the floor as the song begins. The lights narrow to the two of you. On the chorus, four cold spark fountains fire on cue, where the site allows.

Toasts & Dinner

Handheld mics for speeches, a slideshow or live visuals on the wall, lighting set low and warm while dinner is served.

Open Dance Floor to the Curfew

Line-array sound set to the estate's limit with real bass, color changes on the beat, a DJ reading the room, and a last dance timed to the curfew, then a quiet strike.

Malibu is inside our LA-area delivery, so there is no distance line on a Malibu quote. What we plan and price up front is access: a canyon road with limited truck turnaround, a long carry from the parking area to the site, or a generator where the estate's power will not cover the build. Sound limits, curfews and the effects policy are confirmed directly with your venue or estate manager before the day.

How It Works

From Date Check to Last Dance

  1. Check the date

Send your date, venue and guest count. We confirm availability first, then send a written quote for the pieces you want.

  2. Venue approval

We contact your venue, explain exactly what we run and confirm fog and cold sparks in writing before you book effects.

  3. Timeline & cues

You and your planner send us the timeline; we send back a production version with cue points for the entrance, first dance, toasts and last dance.

  4. The night

One crew loads in, runs music, sound, lighting and effects from one run-of-show, and strikes cleanly after the last song.

Questions Malibu couples ask

Before You Book

Our estate has a sound limit and a curfew. Can you work with it?

Yes, and we would rather know it now than on the day. We set the reception PA to the limit, aim and tune it so it feels full on the dance floor without carrying to the neighbors, and build the timeline backward from the curfew so the last dance happens on schedule.

Will a Malibu venue allow fog and cold sparks?

Hotels and many estates do, because cold spark fountains have no open flame, low heat and no pyrotechnic smoke, and the fog stays at floor level. Some canyon sites have seasonal fire-safety rules. We contact your venue directly, explain exactly what we run, and confirm in writing before you book either effect.

Does the estate have enough power for the LED wall and lighting?

Often not on its own. Before the day we send a power and load-in list, and where the house panel will not cover the wall, PA, lighting and effects we spec a quiet generator placed where it is heard least. It is planned in advance, not discovered on the day.

Can your truck get up a canyon road?

We confirm access with the venue before we quote: road width, turnaround, where the truck parks and how far the gear is carried. If a site needs a smaller vehicle or extra hands for the carry, it is planned and priced up front.

Can the ceremony audio handle wind on a bluff?

Yes. We use wireless lapel mics on the officiant, handheld mics for vows, and speakers placed and powered for an outdoor ceremony, so every guest hears every word over the wind and the surf.

How far in advance should we book?

As soon as you have a date and a venue. Malibu's late-spring-through-October Saturdays go first. The 50% deposit is what holds your date.
